Matt began his career in the music industry in the late 90's. While attending UCLA, he interned for seminal hip hop record label, Def Jam and eventually parlayed that experience into a overseeing street marketing for Hollywood based Moonshine Music, the largest American dance music label at the time. After rising to Director of Marketing in two short years he then transitioned to Vice President of Marketing at the premiere electronic dance music magazine BPM and its street-art & fashion sister publication Vapors until 2008. During his time at BPM, Matt began managing DJ and record label owner Steve Aoki in 2005, guiding his career over nearly 20 years of music and entrepreneurial success in fashion, film, literary, gaming and beyond. In 2007, Matt Colon and Steve Aoki partnered with Lawrence Vavra, Paul Rosenberg (manager for Eminem) and the late DJ AM to co-found Deckstar, a forward thinking artist management company representing a diverse roster of musicians. Deckstar grew to become the preeminent management roster in both dance and rock before ultimately merging with YM&U in 2017 to create one of the largest management companies in the world. Matt Colon now serves as Global Music President at YMU.
